Volunteer Zambia Project

Promo safe sport

Volunteer Zambia

Volunteer Zambia is a unique international sport programme run by the Wallace Group – a collaboration between leading UK ‘sport’ universities – to primarily support and work with the leading Zambian sports NGO, Sport in Action. The project is committed to the establishment and sustainable practice of both sport and international development.

Every year Durham University sends students out to Zambia for 8 weeks between June and September. Volunteers collaborate with Zambian volunteer coaches to deliver embedded and sustainable sport opportunities for young people in their community, particularly women and girls. Interested in fundraising for Sport in Action?

In addition to being an active member of the Volunteer Zambia Project, Durham University is committed to fundraising for Sport in Action Zambia, the leading Zambian Sport NGO. Every year Team Durham clubs contribute to raising over £10,000 for Sport in Action.

The recently established DSO Sport in Action Zambia are a student-led committee that oversee Durham’s fundraising activities for Sport in Action Zambia, and are made up of project alumni who are happy to share their experiences about their time on the project. We also offer talks to societies and sports clubs about how your contributions impact sport and international development in Zambia.

If you are interested in hosting a fundraising event for Sport in Action, please email [email protected] to find out how you can do this.

I will forever be grateful that I had the opportunity to volunteer in Zambia, working closely with Zambian coaches to develop the sport I love in communities where it truly makes a difference.
