We are a STEM outreach scheme funded by the Royal Society of Chemistry and deliver exciting hands-on science sessions to children aged 7-14 across County Durham. The ChemSG scheme specifically targets local groups of Brownies, Guides, Scouts and Cubs, either inviting the groups into the department or visiting them at their meeting places. Volunteers are needed to help organise and deliver sessions.<\/p>\n

We provide socials, camps, hikes, and help coordinate volunteering efforts in the local community, encouraging our members to get involved with Scout and Guide groups within Durham.<\/p>\n
We facilitate students to log their volunteering hours through Durham University Student Volunteering and Outreach (DUSVO), with current and past DUSAGG members playing a foundational role within Scouting in Durham City and District. Throughout each academic year, we organise a multitude of successful events. Most notably, our award winning annual event, Midnight Madness, provided the opportunity for over 150 Explorers and Rangers across the county to partake in an overnight challenge hike in 2024. Two of our other most locally renowned events, Indoor and Outdoor, enable young people to participate in a variety of physical and mental challenges. Both events have received a SSAGO (Student Scout and Guide Organisation) commendation for Best Activity, and were attended by nine groups in the local area. In the forthcoming academic year, we aim to continue the running of our pre-existing events, while simultaneously working collaboratively with Durham University to coordinate their new Scout and Guide Initiative.<\/p>\n

Grounded in DUCFS creative philanthropic objectives, Launchpad aims to provide a creative springboard for individuals across the North East, through several outreach projects, towards a brighter future.<\/p>\n
Through a range of creative programmes, funded by 5% of the DUCFS total, DUCFS Launchpad aims to develop key practical life skills that can be taken into the wider community and professional creative workplace, while building strong bonds with our local community. Launchpad is structured around four pillars reflecting incremental parts of DUCFS: Music, Creative arts, Photography and Community. From September we are excited to be launching our first projects under these themes.<\/p>\n
15 adolescents from the local area are excited to embark on our 10 week DJ program commencing in September, with the opportunity to perform at a DUCFS event at the end. Over the subsequent 6 months we hope to hold 4 cycles of our DJ school, supporting 60 local children in pursuing a career in music, opening up opportunities previously unavailable to them.<\/p>\n
We are also proud to be partnering with local charity RTprojects who strive tackle suicide within the North East through creative arts. Finally, Launchpad Community works with several local community outreach groups on smaller projects. Previously we have ran two successful food and clothing drives to support several homeless groups and refugee communities in the North East.<\/p>\n
